Description
Imari Pattern Jug with Metal Handle – Damaged
There is damage to this jug – a chip to the base and a repair to the lip of the jug. This damage to the lip obviously happened some time ago and the metal lid and handle may well have been a attempt at trying to make the jug useable once more.
The rust red and blue glazes on an oriental scene is often referred to Imari and the most famous iterations of this style are made by Crown Derby.
There are markings to the underside of the jug but I have not been able to identify the manufacturer from these markings.
Despite the damage it is an interesting piece; I particularly like the man’s head that appears at the base of the handle.
