Description
slightly damaged
Staffordshire Greyhound Figure
There is a hairline crack to this decorative piece but I think that it is a firing crack (ie. it ocurred in the kiln) rather than a crack that indicates later damage. The crack doesn’t run the full length of the piece.
Made in Staffordshire in the late 19th Century these sight dog figurines were made to be seen in the round. As well as the well executed painted decoration there are also decorative clumps of extruded clay attached to the base to resemble foliage.
Aside from the firing crack this piece is in good condition with no other chips or cracks.
