Description
Green trunk and coloured base
Staffordshire Greyhound Figure
Unlike most Staffordshire spaniel figures these sight dogs were made to be viewed from all sides. That absolves them from being placed on a mantelpiece alongside the flatbacks which were only decorated on their front face.
The hound shown in this piece is a particularly handsome character. Its quarry (an unfortunate rabbit) lies in front of its front paws.
At some point I think it has suffered a break to the snout of the dog, but this has been repaired in a fairly expert manner so is only visible on close inspection. There is also a firing crack to the front right leg.
This piece probably dates from the late 19th Century.
