Staffordshire Flatback Group

The seated woman in this group bears an expression that is resigned to the condescension of the man standing next to her. He is either patting her on the head or resting his ever-so-weary arm on her head. Sadly, I think her demeanour suggests that this is learnt behaviour on both of their parts!

She has received a slight graze to her nose and the urn (or milk churn?) that she is sitting beside has also lost a corner but otherwise the piece is in good condition.

This piece was probably made in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. It is highly likely that it was made in one of the multitude of Stoke On Trent potteries that were making this type of wares.

Measurements:

Height: 23.8cm
Width: 15cm
Depth (front to back): 6.7cm
