Description
Marble Lobed Form Mortar
Of course the mortar is only half of the equation, but in the absence of a corresponding pestle . . . this is all I can offer you!
Made from marble and obviously having had a life, this handsome marble mortar, would make a stylish countertop vessel in a kitchen, and you could improvise with the end of a rolling pin to crush your spices/garlic/herbs.
Very difficult to date and or to guess at an attribution of where it was made. I would hazard a guess at it being early 20th Century. There is a channel carved in one of the four lobed sections via which any liquid contents could be poured out.
