Rolex Cal.700 circa 1947 | steel mid-sized manually wound vintage wristwatch

Rolex Cal.700 Circa 1947 | Steel

Made in circa 1947, the dial of this mid-sized Rolex watch has acquired a wonderful patina that is rich and even in tone. The blued steel ‘feuille’ hands provide a clear contrast between the gold coloured tone of the Arabic numerals and the surface of the dial itself. This watch was manufactured by Rolex for the UK market and the steel case was supplied to them by the Dennison case company. A Dennison Ref. 12327 case, the design is classically 1940s with a rounded bezel and down-turned lugs. The watch is powered by a Rolex, 15 jewel, manually wound calibre with patented Rolex Superbalance.

Tudor / Rolex Prince Oysterdate Ref. 7966 dated 1959 | steel automatic vintage wristwatch

Tudor/Rolex Prince Oysterdate Ref.7966 Dated 1959 | Steel

A handsome example of a late 1950s Tudor Oysterdate, this watch is date stamped to the inside case back for the year 1959. The silvered dial has a circular satin finish with applied, faceted spear-shaped indexes at the quarters and slim baton indexes at the intervening hours; unusually the centre seconds hand has a contrasting red lacquered finish. Cased in stainless steel, the Rolex Oyster case has a screw-down crown and back. Automatically wound, this model is powered by the calibre 2462 which has provision for semi-quick date change – while the date will change each day at midnight, it can be manually advanced, when required, by moving the hands repeatedly between 9pm and midnight.

Longines Ref.6446 made 1954 | Steel

This rare Longines wristwatch has a 35mm diameter case with faceted bezel and unusual flame-form lugs. Crusader & Adie Brothers 1936 | silver hunting cased vintage purse watch

Crusader/Adie Brothers Hallmarked 1936 | Silver

An attractive purse watch with a dual-action sprung closure, the sterling silver case was made in the UK by Adie Brothers Ltd; the movement was supplied by Crusader, a sub brand of the Swiss watchmakers Henri Sandoz & Fils. The two-toning of the silvered dial provides contrast between the background of the Arabic chapter and the main dial body – the silver foil Arabic and baton hour indexes catch and reflect the light providing further contrast. The inner case is hinged into the outer, this allows the inner case to be easily lifted to gain access to the winding crown. The main outer case has polished covers with engine-turned decoration to the inner edges, there is also an inscription dated June 1938 engraved to the inside of the lid. The front is opened by sliding the lid upwards to release its catch before hinging open.
