This week’s update opens with the steel rectangular Omega shown above. Dating to the mid 1930s, this wristwatch has an extraordinary dial with eccentrically positioned Arabic numerals for the hours and chapter rings for hours/minutes and seconds rendered in a secondary tone. Avant-garde in design, the dial is highly influenced by the Art Deco movement and demonstrates the extraordinary inventiveness of the finest early dial makers. The dial was made to the highest standards with a silvered dial plate that was engraved and then infilled with black enamel for the tracking and numerals. As a consequence, despite the oxidation and tarnishing, the numerals and tracking remain wonderfully clear. Added to which, the steel case houses the famous Omega T17 calibre movement which the company first introduced in 1934.
Shown above is an extremely handsome version of the Omega Seamaster Ref.14759 which dates to circa 1961. The silvered dial is in outstanding condition with a perfect, warm, patination. The applied numerals have a pleasing and unusual wedge shape and the screw-down case back is centred by a crisp Omega Seamaster ‘medallion’.
Dating to 1941 and shown above is a very handsome Omega wristwatch, again with a beautifully patinated dial, this time with a ‘honeycomb’ textured finish. The applied gold coloured Arabic numerals are interspersed with dagger numerals which are multi-faceted, thereby enhancing the play of light across their surface. The 9ct yellow gold case is classically designed with gently down-turned lugs.
Pictured above is a Rolex Ref.6422 which is date stamped for 1956. This model has a classic stainless steel Oyster case with screw-down crown and case back. The silvered dial would have been replaced during a servicing and, stylistically, dates to the mid 1960s.
Also just added to the website are the two Omega watches shown above. To the left, and dating to 1961, is a 9ct yellow gold centre seconds Omega with attractively stepped lugs and combination silvered dial with centre seconds. To the right, is a stainless steel automatic Omega Seamaster, Ref. 166.002, which dates to circa 1966.
