Zenith Sporto retailed by H. Lamb, West Hartlepool, steel vintage wristwatch, circa 1959
A stainless steel manually wound wristwatch with original retailer’s presentation case
A great looking Zenith model, the dial of this wristwatch is in excellent condition with a rich lustre. The maker’s signature and ‘star’ motif are raised in a format to match the hour indexes whilst the retailer’s name, H. Lamb of West Hartlepool, is printed just beneath. During the 1950s, Zenith’s Sporto range was produced with an extremely good quality steel case, featuring sharp angles and edges and combinations of satin and polished finishes. The case of this watch retains very good definition to its angles and edges and has not been polished during servicing – there are light scuffs to the surface of the case. The outside case back is solid steel but the movement is covered by an additional glazed cuvette which not only further protects the movement from dirt and moisture, but also also allows inspection of the movement without exposing it to the elements.
This watch is fitted with a vintage, brown leather, stitched strap and is accompanied by the original retailer’s presentation box which is signed by H. Lamb of West Hartlepool.
