This book is published by the British Library and is edited by Ewan Clayton who is a calligrapher and lettering artists who also works as a Professor in Design at the University of Sunderland.
Writing: Making Your Mark considers the origins of writing, how we learn to write, the many tools we employ, and the skill and creativity inherent in making even the simplest mark. Illustrating the diverse evolution of the craft is a wealth of beautiful items from the British Library collection ranging from rare carved stone inscriptions and mediaeval manuscripts to samples of earl printing, classic typography, modern handwriting and digital inputting systems.
