Gold Vacheron & Constantin vintage wristwatch, circa 1948

A fine 18ct yellow gold manually wound centre seconds wristwatch

This superb 18ct gold wristwatch has a beautiful case with deep, down-turned lugs and a broadly chamfered case back. The case retains excellent definition with clear hallmarking to the case side and underside of the lower right hand lug. The dial has a classic configuration with applied gold Arabic and faceted triangular numerals, the silvered surface has been professionally restored to accurately maintain the original design. The blued steel centre seconds provides a very attractive contrast to the gold minute and hour hands.

The extremely fine movement is a Vacheron Constantin calibre V454, which has a superior finish with polished, countersunk screw heads and decorative ‘Geneva’ stripes across the plates. The movement has 17 jewels and precision regulation via the vernier screw to the regulating index.

Vacheron & Constantin was founded in 1755 and is the oldest, continuously active, watchmaker in the world. Together with Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, the company is recognised as one of the finest historical watch manufacturers. With a rich heritage, the Geneva based company is admired for the variety and quality of its heritage pieces that have included watches of outstanding quality, complexity and design. Its 250th anniversary in 2005 was marked by a series of events and the launch of several special watches, including the world’s most complicated double-faced wristwatch, the Tour de l’Ile.
