Steel Tudor / Rolex Prince Oysterdate Submariner Ref. 76100 vintage wristwatch, circa 1986

A stainless steel automatic centre seconds diver’s wristwatch with date, bracelet, original presentation cases, guarantee, instructions, swing tag, receipt and folder

This Tudor Submariner is in superb condition and is complete with all its original documentation, presentation cases and numbered swing tag. The watch’s serial number places the year of manufacture to 1986 and it was purchased new by the previous owner from Boodle and Dunthorne in Chester on 21st April 1988, the sale is recorded on both the original receipt and guarantee paper.

The Tudor Submariner takes many of its design elements from the Rolex Submariner, from fonts and calibrations to the Rolex Oyster case with ‘Triplock’ crown. The diver’s Oyster bracelet has a twin-lock safety clasp and retractable extension link that can be used to comfortably fit the bracelet over a diving suit. The first Tudor Submariner was created in 1954, coinciding with the introduction of the Rolex Submariner which was officially launched in the same year at the Basel Fair. Reference 76100 was introduced by Tudor around 1984. Today, the Submariner is seen as one of the most iconic of all vintage watch designs.  A lavishly illustrated history of the Tudor Submariner can be found in Isnardi, A., Tudor Anthology, 2013, pp.4-123 where copies of original advertisements for this and other models can be found.

Incorporating a 25 jewel automatic movement with provision for fast date change, the watch also has a hack feature which stops the seconds hand whilst the time is being set, thereby allowing easy synchronisation to a time signal.

As part of this watch’s service and overhaul it has been pressure tested for water resistance at depths up to 200 metres.
