Steel Tudor / Rolex Oyster Royal Ref. 7904 vintage wristwatch, circa 1955
A stylish stainless steel manually wound centre seconds wristwatch with ‘honeycomb’ dial
This is a great looking vintage wristwatch with a very attractive ‘honeycomb’ dial that is in excellent condition for its age. The robust Oyster case, with screw-down crown, is a classic Rolex design. The Tudor brand was registered on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf (the co-founded of Rolex) in 1926. During the 1950s, Rolex invested heavily in the marketing and promotion of their Tudor brand, emphasizing its quality and reliability. Rolex sponsored the Greenland Polar Expedition of 1952-1954, equipping the 30 man team with Tudor watches.
Tudor finished manually wound ETA calibre 1182 movement, lever escapement, 17 jewels, compensation balance, 18,000 BPH, Kif shock absorber; silvered ‘honeycomb’ dial, raised Arabic and triangular numerals with luminescent dots above, luminescent hands (please note that luminescence will have naturally dulled with age); blued steel centre seconds; stainless steel Oyster case, polished chamfered bezel, the tops of the lugs with satin finish, screw-down case back and Rolex crown; case, dial, movement and crown signed.
