The Sensual Garden – Ken Druse
You wait all year for a book that concentrates on botanical fragrance and then two come along at the same time. Both this title The Scentual Garden and Isabel Bannerman’s book Scent Magic have their own place and role to play in this pantheon. Whereas Scent Magic is laid out chronologically through the year this book starts with a chapter on the invisible garden before proceeding through an exploration of why plants smell and how we interpret those scents before looking at how the scent of flowers can be captured.
The bulk of the book is however taken up with an encyclopedia of scented plants split according to their scent profile. In the section for honey scented plants for example are Melianthus Major, Sedum, and Astilbe whereas the medicinal section incorporates Euculyptus, Perovskia and Myrtus.
The stunning botanical photographs are by Ellen Hoverkamp and the text is by Ken Druse.
