The Monocle Book of Italy
In the 2014 film Pride, Dominic West’s character proclaims ‘God, I miss disco’ – I feel the same way about Italy.
This book will do nothing to lessen that. For well over a decade Monocle magazine has roamed the length of the country – from the craggy peaks of the Dolomites to the azure waters of Sicily – and this book is the result of their reporting.
The book opens with a portrait of the nation and then the different chapters concentrate on culture, design, architecture, retail, hospitality and the people. It is part guide to the country and part deep dive into the industries, culture and people that make up the country. As with everything from the Monocle stable there is more than half an eye on the visual – the book itself is a visual treat and the subjects that they pick out fro food packaging to buildings are chosen for their aesthetics.
