Spectrum: Heritage Patterns and Colours
This book offers and analysis of the colour palettes used in furnishing fabrics and wallpapers from the 15th Century to the present day. Each textile or wallpaper design is reproduced and alongside it on the verso page is a simple breakdown of the individual colours in the design. The colour chart also gives the rough proportion of one colour against the others.
The fabric or wallpaper is also dated and the listing is accompanied with a short bit of text that gives the history of the design and where it was made or designed. The blocks of colour (each labelled with its CMYK value) allows the reader to follow the fashion in colours alongside the fashion for different designs; from early Iranian carpets to glazed cotton French fabric from the 1860s and Celia Birtwell’s Mademoiselle design from 2000.
