Pattern Design edited by Elizabeth Wilhide
This encyclopedia of pattern design features more than 1500 images of the world’s most popular and influential patterns. The book is arranged thematically from flora to geometric, from psychedelic to pictorial. As well as the individual patterns it also highlights the work of specific designers such as Anni Albers (who is the subject of a current exhibition at Tate Modern), Edward Bawden, Cath Kidston and Eley Kishimoto.
It is an inspiring book from front to back making connections between various patterns and their makers while also exploring the genesis of certain styles of pattern repeat.
