Telda chrome and steel vintage wristwatch, circa 1950

A chrome and steel triple calendar wristwatch with subsidiary seconds

This triple calendar wristwatch is in almost unused condition with an excellent silvered dial and a super crisp, well defined case. The calendar displays days of the week and months of the year in the apertures below 12 o’clock, whilst the date is indicated via a red tipped central hand which points to the outer date ring which is calibrated with blue numerals. The days of the weeks and date automatically advance at midnight and the months require manual advancement at the start of each month via the pusher to the case side at the 2 o’clock position. Two further pushers at 4 o’clock and 10 o’clock respectively allow the quick manual advancement, if required, of the date and day.

The watch is powered by a Venus calibre 204, manually wound movement with 17 jewels. Venus specialised in the production of chronograph and calendar movements and their calibres were used by a variety of different companies. Telda were part of the watchmaking group ‘Charles Nicolet’ which was based at Tramelan-Dessus, Switzerland. Charles Nicolet himself set up the company in 1914 and the Telda brand was already in use by 1920.
