Description
Silver Card Tray
These very elegant silver dishes were probably made as card trays, for calling cards to be left on in the hallways of houses.
They were made by the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company who were based at 112 Regent Street London. The firm later amalgamated with Garrards. The trays bear full hallmarks which date them to 1925-26, hallmarked in London made from sterling silver. They also bear the assay office stamp for the Goldsmith and Silversmiths company as well as having their full title marked to the underside of each piece.
The style of the edge of the tray is known as gadrooned.
Nowadays you are possibly unlikely to use these for calling or business cards but they would make an excellent and stylish repository for jewellery, cufflinks and the like.
Some slight scratch marks in places.
