Description
Steel Rolex ‘Super Precision’ Ref. 4222 vintage wristwatch, circa 1959
A rare stainless steel manually wound centre seconds vintage wristwatch with long and slim down-turned lugs
Rolex’s reference 4222 appears to have been made in very small numbers and is seldom seen on the market. It is unusually large for its style and period of production, with a case diameter of 35mm excluding the winding crown. Cased in steel, the lugs are long and slim with a pronounced downward flow which creates an elegant profile view. The handsome silvered dial, with warm and even patina, has multi-faceted numerals and matching faceted hands. At the outer edge of the dial, the minute/seconds track is rendered in the so-called ‘perlé’ manner, whereby each marker is precisely and evenly recessed into the dial’s surface.
