Direct from the original owner’s family, this watch has an unusual and highly distinctive herringbone sector dial. The design is reminiscent of the 1950s ‘honeycomb’ dial, yet the herringbone styling creates a completely different look – quartering the dial in this way adds depth and contrast and allows light to play across its surface. There are bold raised numerals with block form Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock separated by multi-faceted dagger indexes in between. The Alpha-shaped hour and minute hands contrast with the blued steel centre seconds with its counterbalanced tail. Cased in steel, the watch has a smooth chamfered bezel and typical Rolex Oyster screw-down crown and case back. There is a warm patina to the dial and light scuffs and scratches to the case.
