A 9ct yellow gold automatic centre seconds wristwatch with sprung Rolex Oyster gold plated bracelet

This Rolex Air-King has a solid 9ct yellow gold case which is hallmarked for the year 1967. The case retains good definition with clear hallmarking to the underside of the lugs. The silvered, satin finished dial is in excellent condition and features slim gold baton indexes. This watch is sold with its original gold plated Rolex Oyster bracelet which has sprung riveted links and is date stamped for 1967, the same year as the gold hallmarks to the watch case itself. As with all versions of the 5500 Air-King, the bracelet of this model can be detached and replaced with a leather strap (as illustrated in the primary image) if preferred.

Rolex introduced the ‘Air-King’ Ref. 5500 in 1957 and the majority of pieces examples were made in stainless steel. The model is favoured for its automatic movement and classic Rolex styling.

Rolex calibre 1520 automatic movement, lever escapement, 26 jewels, mono-metallic balance, 19,800 BPH, Kif shock absorber; silvered satin finished dial, applied gold coloured indexes with luminescent dots above, luminescent hands; polished 9ct yellow gold Rolex Oyster case, smooth chamfered bezel, the tops of the lugs with satin finish; case, dial and movement signed; set to a detachable gold plated, riveted Rolex Oyster sprung bracelet with adjustable folding clasp.
