Wilding – Isabella Tree
Wilding is the story of an experiment to re-wild a West Sussex farm. It is an experiment brought on by the threat of bankruptcy; an intensive farming programme on heavy clay soils that wasn’t working. Isabella Tree and her husband Charlie Burrell took the leap of faith of handing their 3,500 acres back to nature. With minimal intervention and herd of free roaming animals stimulating new habitats their acreage is now teeming with life. Biodiversity has rocketed and once rare sightings – turtle doves, peregrine falcons and purple emperor butterflies – have become commonplace.
Part memoir, part fascinating account of rural ecology, Wilding is an story of hope. A story of how a richer, wilder countryside can benefit farming, nature and us.
