Description
The Tulip Garden – Polly Nicholson
The tulips in my own garden are just starting to show the heads of their flowers. I didn’t plant more tulips last autumn so these are ones that have been in the ground for a number of years. Some species of tulips don’t flower as well in years 2-3+ as they do in their first year of flowering but these varieties seem to come back with some vigour year on year.
Polly Nicholson is a specialist flower grower and tulip specialist. She has been growing tulips in her Wiltshire garden for fifteen years, and this is also where she runs her cut flower business from. In this book she takes the reader through the history of the tulip including the infamous tulip fever years. She also looks at species tulips (which are better at repeat year on year performance) Dutch tulips and English tulips.
There is advice on growing these bulbs to their best potential and also suggestions on planting combinations and specific varieties.
Like tulips themselves it is also a handsome looking book and the photographs of the blooms display their beauty perfectly.
