Description
Ellsworth Kelly
This monogram on Ellsworth Kelly (1923-2015) is published by Phaidon and includes contributions from Gavin Delahunty, Gary Garrels, Richard Shiff and Robert Storr but is written by Tricia Y Paik. She quotes Kelly in her introduction to the book as stating “I’m not an inventor” – the book takes this statement and sees his work, its origins, development and refinement through his career, and how it fits in to the lineage of art history.
Of course Kelly’s work can look startlingly inventive with its strong planes of colour and minimalism. He also said of his own work that his presentation amounts to an “alphabet of lines, forms, values and colors.”
