Description
A Thousand Threads – Neneh Cherry
The quote from Zadie Smith that graces the cover of this book reads ‘Neneh is cool, Neneh is wise, Neneh is a legend. Her memoir is a treasure. I loved it.’
Neneh’s infamous first impression on the general public at large was her appearance on Top of the Pops in December 1988 with her record Buffalo Stance. Wearing a gold bra, a gold bomber jacket and being very definitely 7 months pregnant, this was a vision of motherhood and womanhood that a lot of people (including this twelve year old!) had never seen.
Her memoir tells the story of how she got to that point and what she has done since; the collaborations, the highs and lows, the friendships and loves, the addictions and traumas that have shaped her as a woma and an artist.
