Little Red – Bethan Woollvin
Little Red is the title for which Bethan Woollvin was awarded Best Illustrated Book by the New York Times.
Woollvin’s retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood story is that of a girl who isn’t intimidated by the wolf, or indeed fooled by his disguise, but instead hatches a plan to outfox him and revise the ending of the traditional tale.
As Woollvin notes at the end of the book “As a child I found Little Red Riding Hood very naïve: how could she not tell it was a wolf in a nightdress.? I wanted my Little Red to be braver and more intelligent than the original.”
