Omega Cal. 283 hallmarked 1952 | 18ct gold manual vintage wristwatch

A highly attractive mid-century wristwatch, this 36mm diameter Omega retains its original gold buckle, easel-form leather covered presentation case, card outer box and Omega maintenance booklet. Rarely found in 18ct yellow gold, the case of this watch is rich and full in tone. The design of the watch is based on Omega’s Trésor Ref.2624 which was made in 18ct gold and introduced in 1949. Like the present watch, the Trésor also had a relatively large 36mm diameter case with chamfered bezel and rounded down-turned lugs and incorporated the Omega calibre 283 movement. In common with most UK market Omega dress watches of the period, the case of this watch was made in the UK by the Dennison case company and is hallmarked for the year 1952. Interestingly the case back is engraved ‘Race 31-52’ which may be a motor racing reference, perhaps suggesting that the watch was commemorative for its original owner. The very handsome silvered dial has a crosshair motif to the centre and a combination of gold foil and raised triangular indexes.

We have fitted the watch with a new Hirsch Siena watch strap and the original substantial Omega pin buckle with tapered sides and applied Omega motif.
