Mended Tweed Blanket – Charcoal Grey
This blanket is woven from soft merino wool by Mourne Textiles who are based at the foot of the Mourne mountain range in Northern Ireland. Although soft to fell it is a relatively thick blanket providing the requisite density to keep you warm and light enough to feel comfortable.
The fabric was designed by Gerd Hay-Edie for Irish fashion designer Sybil Connoly’s 1956 Spring collection. It was a fabric that drew great admiration at the time with journalists noting that although the fabric looked primitive it was cunningly subtle and soft.
It is an unusual layered weave and the organic tactile quality is, in part, arrived at by the use of spun pure merino Donegal yarn which has beautiful flecks of colour throughout. There is a band of differently woven fabric at each end of the blanket.
