Description
JT & Co LPS Silver Plated Nut Dish
This Art Deco style silver plated dish was made by a company called John Turton and Co. Their name is inscribed to the side of the vessel in its shortened form of JT & Co. It also states in the same markings that the piece is EPNS (elctro plated nickel steel), so silver plated rather than solid silver . . . more’s the pity!
The styling of the handles is the part of this dish that sets it apart, the circular reeded form that they take elevates the dish into something special.
John Turton himself was active as a cutlery maker and silversmith in Sheffield in the 19th Century, the company was registered as a limited company in 1910 and made cuterly both from stainless steel and from silver plated steel as well as hotel wares. This dish was probably made as a nut dish, and if you have the need for such a thing it would certainly look elegant piled high with walnuts etc.
I think that the dish was probably made in the 1930s.
