Description
John Craxton: A Modern Odyssey – Simon Martin
Last year we had the Ian Collins biography of John Caxton, which if you didn’t manage to read it was a really good introduction to his life and work.
This book was published in 2023 to mark the exhibition of Craxton works at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester. It contains essays by Simon Martin (director of Pallant House Gallery, Hilary Spurling, Edmund White and Ian Collins. The book charts the development of Craxton’s work from the poetic, melancholy images he created of war time Britain to the exuberant paintings he made of his adopted homeland of Greece.
There is also a transcript of an interview between Craxton and Simon Martin.
If Craxton takes your fancy and you also like cats . . . then we also stock Craxton’s Cats.
