Description
Ramen Bowl with Blue Celadon and Ochre Wash
Isatu Hyde refers to this shape as ramen bowl but . . . if you’re not a fan of the (sometimes) slithery noodle then you could pu this bowl to many other uses. It could hold a pretty large serving of soup, a selection of vividly bright citrus fruit, a salad (the purple of radicchio would look particularly lovely against the celadon) or . . . . as I chose in this photograph . . . biscuits.
Biscuit side note – these are James Morton’s Orange Blossom and chocolate cookies
The bowls are thrown by Isatu in her studio in north Herefordshire. Isatu studied at Falmouth and then gained the position of apprentice potter with Andrew Crouch at Ludlow’s Marches Pottery. She had a solo exhibiution at Leach Pottery in St. Ives in 2023 and was selected by Nigel Slater for inclusion in his recent article in the Observer where he said that her work was top of his wish list.
These bowls are made from stoneware.
Each bowl is made and decorated by hand so some variation exists between each one. Isatu’s stamped monogram is near the foot of each bowl and a swipe of the ochre glaze is on the underside of the bowl. The foot of the bowl is unglazed. Some of the bowls have a warm fawn coloured blush across them. Each bowl is now listed individually so that you can be assured that the variant that you select will be the one that you receive.
