Tirzah Garwood – Lotte Crawford

Like thousands of others before (and after) her Garwood was overshadowed by her husband’s success. Married to Eric Ravilious in 1930, both marriage and motherhood curtailed her artistic ambitions.

What they didn’t do was curb her imagination.  She found creative expression and commercial success with intricately patterned  papers created on the kitchen table. Her works – from marbled papers and wood engraving to painting – fused English Romanticiusm with her domestic life.
