Description
Dartmouth Tourist Ware Green Mug
This is a Dartmouth mug made by . . . . Dartmouth Pottery.
Which is fitting!
Taking its ques from Devonmoor Blueware pottery which had a single colour glaze and an inscribed text denoting a particular tourist destination, this tankard is made with a terracotta body which shows through in both the scribed markings and also the rim and base of the mug.
The form of the mug was probably a standard producton piece that the pottery decorated in a variety of styles, including this one. There is some rather ornate markings to the handle which are slightly at odds with the deocrative scheme.
The green glaze is a really lovely pistachio colour, and the mug was probably made in the 1950s.
In good condition with no chips or cracks.
