Cyma Ref. 1528 steel and chrome vintage wristwatch, circa 1940
A very handsome steel and chromed curved rectangular wristwatch with two-tone dial
In remarkable original condition, this is a fantastic rectangular wristwatch of relatively large size for the period of production. The dial is exceptional with a design highly influenced by the Art Deco period, incorporating silver mirror foiled Arabic numerals arranged eccentrically around the dial and with similarly finished asymmetric borders. Both the chromed upper case and steel back are pleasingly curved to follow the shape of the wrist with both elements retaining excellent definition to their angles and edges.
Cyma was part of the larger Tavannes Watch Co. which had factories and offices in Switzerland at Tavannes, La Chaux de Fonds, La Joux, Le Locle, Geneva and Neuchâtel. Vintage Cyma advertisements suggested the firm was founded in 1862 under the company name Schwob Frères. Tavannes itself was established in the town of the same name by Henri Sandoz in 1891.
This watch is fitted with a new Christopher Clarke for Black Bough brown lizard leather watch strap.
