Cyma gold vintage wristwatch, hallmarked 1947
A handsome mid-sized 9ct yellow gold manually wound wristwatch
With classic 1940s styling, this is a very handsome Cyma wristwatch. The silvered dial has gilded/foil Arabic numerals and an engine-turned subsidiary seconds dial. The hands are of so-called ‘syringe‘ style, a distinctive design that was used by Cyma on a variety of their models during this period. Cased in 9ct yellow gold, like many watches destined for the UK market, the case was made by Dennison and is their model reference 12325.
Cyma was part of the larger Tavannes Watch Co. which had factories and offices in Switzerland at Tavannes, La Chaux de Fonds, La Joux, Le Locle, Geneva and Neuchâtel. Vintage Cyma advertisements suggested the firm was founded in 1862 under the company name Schwob Frères. Tavannes itself was established in the town of the same name by Henri Sandoz in 1891.
