Cyma cal. 162 hallmarked 1947 | 9ct gold manual vintage wristwatch
This is a great looking mid-sized wristwatch made in 9ct gold. The case has attractive slim lugs with sharp downward facets and the silvered dial has gold foil Arabic numerals which are particularly bold in appearance. The hands have an Art Deco feel and are reminiscent of a skyscraper’s silhouette; this design of hands was especially favoured by Cyma. The watch is accompanied by a presentation case from David Summerfield jewellers of Newcastle.
Cyma was part of the larger Tavannes Watch Co. which had factories and offices in Switzerland at Tavannes, La Chaux de Fonds, La Joux, Le Locle, Geneva and Neuchâtel. Vintage Cyma advertisements suggested the firm was founded in 1862 under the company name Schwob Frères. Tavannes itself was established in the town of the same name by Henri Sandoz in 1891.
