Description
Crown Ducal Vase with Applied Dots
I quite like pieces that go through the factiory process but still come out with a fault, and this is one such piece. It also enables us to understand more about how the piece was made.
This vase is Crown Ducal’s pattern reference 212. It was probably introduced c. 1936. Without looking at other examples of the same reference you might think that the raised spots to the surface were part of the mould but they were actually applied by hand. One of the raised dots has not been applied and there is therefore a void where it should be, but it is a slight hollow and has the glaze applied across it, indicating that the ommission of the dot happened when the vase was raw clay and before it was glazed.
