Coalport Shell Vase

This small cornucopia form vase was made by Coalport at some point between 1891 and 1930. Post 1930 the backstamp that the company used changed so that it read Made in England rather than just England as marked here.

Coalport is a Shropshire pottery, they were founded in 1795 and sited on the banks of both the Severn river and the Coalport canal in the Ironbridge gorge. There is now a really good museum on the site and, while there is still some production, the visitor attraction is now dominant. Coalport became part of the Wedgwood group in 1967.

This piece is made from bone china and finely modelled. It could be used as a vase for a selection of short stemmed flowers or alternatively as a vessel for . . . . dolly mixtures.
