White Glazed Bowl by Cleefold Pottery

This bowl is one of the first pieces that we are stocking by local potter James Wardle who works under the name Cleefold Pottery as his studio is based in the fold between the two large hills that lie to the East of Ludlow: Brown Clee and Titterstone Clee.

The bowl is hand thrown and the inside of the bowl has a subtle rope twist decoration at the bottom of the bowl which is impressed. The bowl has a shallow foot and the exterior of the bowl has a scattered wood ash decoration which results in a highlighting of the texture of the outside of the bowl.

The inside of the bowl is a more glossy glaze than the outside because of this technique.

The bowl is the ideal size for a small fruit bowl – I’ve filled it with slightly under-ripe passion fruit in the photograph here, but it would make a good counter top repository for lemons, lime, ginger and garlic . . . . all of which are kitchen essentials in my book. Equally you could fill it with custard!

Height: 8cm
Diameter (at rim): 20cm
Diameter (at foot): 8.5cm
