Handmade Round Soap Dish

This soap dish is handmade by James Wardle of Cleefold Pottery which is based just outside of Ludlow – in the fold between Brown Clee and Titterstone Clee.

As more of us are turning towards a bar of soap again rather than the single-use plastics that house many liquid soaps we will in turn need something for the soap to sit on that lets the excess water sit away from the body of the soap to stop it from rapidly turning into a mushy mess.

The form of these thrown soap dishes mean they might best be suited to sitting on the surface next to your kitchen sink. The concentric rings that the soap sits on are raised just enough to allow the water to drain and the dish itself can be easily cleaned.

We have another soap dish by James that is a slightly squashed form that might sit more easily on the side of a bathroom sink.

James has glazed these pieces with a white glaze and the brown is then achieved with a bushed wood ash. As each piece is made by hand there might be small differences in the size of each dish and in the patten of brown on white decoration. They are unglazed to the underside and feature the Cleefold Pottery stamp.

Shown here with a bar of verveine (verbena) scented soap from our range.
