Description
Cafe Cecilia Cookbook – Max Rocha
If you are out of touch with the latest hot London dining spot (reader, that is me) the cult of Cafe Cecilia miught have passed you by. My trips to London are so much a list of jobs that need doing, appointments that need to be met, trade shows that need to be visited, that the culinary highlight of a trip to London is often an Itsu sushi pack or a Pret sandwich scoffed within 5 minutes. However, having flicked through this book I would like to add Cafe Cecilia to a more relaxed itinerary.
It’s my kind of food. Classic, restrained, homely and . . . on that note, seemingly replicable at home. The restaurant is based in Hackney and Max Rocha is the chef/owner.
The cafe opens from breakfast through to dinner, and Max’s ingredient led style reflects his time spent working at the River Café and St. John.
The book has breakfast recipes as well as snacks, pastas, salads and soups and main course and puddings. It is also beautifully photographed, all of the food shots are against the stainless steel of a professional kitchen, and are all served on plain white tableware. There are recipes for year round eating, come next summer I’ll be cooking his poached trout with courgette fritti (and mayonnaise), while this winter I’m going to try pappardelle with walnut sauce, and mussels, leeks, cannelini neams and tarragon.
