Welsh Gaudy Jug
This jug was probably produced in the last quarter of the 19th Century. It has many of the elements of Welsh Gaudy ware, some which might (fairly) be described as having a slapdash application! This is not the fine brushwork of Worcester porcelain but rather the rapid application of cobalt blue, rust red and copper lustre glazes to achieve a distinctive, relaxed effect.
The copper lustre glaze is the last element of the decoration to have been applied to the jug. In common with lots of similar pieces there is no maker’s mark or backstamp to the piece. In good condition with no chips or cracks.
Diameter: 9cm approx.
