Wedgwood Ribbed Ravenstone Vase
I’m a big fan of this period of Wedgwood manufacture. Made in the late 1960s – somewhat unhelpfully the impressed mark on this vase is indistinct but I think it reads for April 1967 – they are effortlessly stylish pieces made with all the attention to quality that Wedgwood had and that, to this day, still look chic.
The ribbed pieces such as these were made in this black glaze which is known as ravenstone and also in an off white glaze which is known as moonstone. The shape of the vase means that it is a stylish thing with or without flowers and the black colourway is an unusual counterfoil to all manner of blooms and foliage.
