Staffordshire Spaniel – Unmatched Pair

This pair of Staffordshire spaniels are a complementary pair rather than a precisely matched pair. The glass eyes have, I think, been replaced at some point so are probably not all original. One of the dogs has clear eyes and the other has amber brown eyes.

There is something cartoonish about these particular Staffordshire dogs, the tan ands chestnut glaze marks them apart from the more commonly seen white versions but they still retain the gilt glazed elements that are found on other pieces on the chain and collar. These elements as well as the nose, whiskers and eyebrows are all applied by hand giving each dog its own characteristics.

The brown colouring has I think been applied with a sponge, again by hand.
