Description
This Staffordshire spaniels is on his own, and, given its expression, seemingly quite concerned about this.
There is something cartoonish about this Staffordshire dogs, the tan ands chestnut glaze marks them apart from the more commonly seen white versions but they still retain the gilt glazed elements that are found on other pieces on the chain and collar. These elements as well as the nose, whiskers and eyebrows are all applied by hand giving each dog its own characteristics. At some point this dog has lost one of his amber eyes and someone has found a replacement eye for it which is clear rather than amber. They have fixed it in place . . . . with white tack. This may be a blessing, the eye seems perfectly secure as it is, but I guess if you wanted to find another amber eye you could do so and swap it over, or . . . you could turn it into a one eyed dog, or get multiple spare eyes and swap them over according on a whim.
The brown colouring has I think been applied with a sponge, again by hand.
As well as this single spaniel we also have an unmatched pair in the same style.
