Staffordshire Princess Flatback
I’m hoping that the princess that features on this Staffordshire flatback is wearing yellow gloves, because otherwise she has a severe case of jaundice which must surely be approaching the skin on her face imminently. She has also perfectly mastered the art of side saddle riding, although quite how she is managing to look so composed is beyond me. That will be the magic of being a princess I guess.
These Staffordshire flatback figures were intended for display on a mantelpiece and because they would therefore have been facing out into a room the reverse side is not decorated. The figure probably dates to circa 1885 and depicts the Princess of Wales.
