Small Sprigged Stoneware Mug
This stoneware mug has a treacle glaze applied around the rim and top of the handle in a slightly slapdash manner. The sprigged decoration was applied before this brown glaze and comprises of two moulded decorative pieces which have been applied in the mirror image of each other.
Sprig decorations were made in separate moulds from either slip or soft clay and were then applied to the body of the vessel with another application of slip.
This diminutive mug was probable made in the second half of the 19th century.
In good condition.
