Description
Shorter & Son Floral Vase / Beaker
The moulded decoration of this piece shows an indeterminate flower which I think is maybe supposed to be an iris. The flower looks a bit more like a viola but the sword shape leaves lead to me think that it is supposed to be an iris.
Shorter and Son were based in Stoke-on-Trent and the company history includes a period when Clarice Cliff was the artistic director of the company. I think that this piece probably dates to the 1930s.
There are no chips or cracks to the vessel but there are some marks to one side where tiny bubbles in the glaze have occurred in the firing process and have a slight colour to them.
