Hornsea Pottery ‘White Wedding’ Vase
This amphora shaped vase was made by Hornsea Pottery in East Yorkshire. The amphora shape and ridged surface were designed by John Clappison who was their chief designer. The vases probably date from the early 1980s. We have two vases – one has a satin glaze finish and the other has a matt finish.
The vases come from the ‘Classic’ range that he designed for the company and are sometimes referred to as the “White Wedding’ range.
They are stylish things, drawing on classical Greek amphora and also mid-century styling. They sit well as they are, or with a stem or two of flowers.
