Description
Framed Victorian Tile Panel
This two-tile panel was probably placed in this wooden frame about 30 years ago. The tiles themselves though are probably late Victorian or early Edwardian. I haven’t removed the tiles from the frame to see if the manufacturer’s name is on the reverse and have been unable to find the maker or designer of this tile listed anywhere. It would originally have been intended as part of a fire surround and would have included further tiles to complement this pair in order to achieve the height of a normal surround panel. You can see an example of the effect here.
There is a hairline crack to the top tile which can be seen in the additional photographs.
